Innovative design incorporates built-in extra parts container for ease of use and hydraulics to increase personnel safety
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, March 15, 2016 — Champion GSE, a full-service producer of engine stands and containers, will feature its certified GEnx breakthrough rollover engine stand design at this year’s MRO Americas show, April 5–7 in Dallas. With improved ease of use through built-in parts stowage and enhanced safety features, it is a dual-option stand that can be used for either the GEnx-1B or -2B engine platform.
A first in the industry, the new dual-option stand eliminates an extra external parts container, making it easier to use. The stand also improves safety by including onboard controls for hydraulic actuation of casters and shock isolation mounts, eliminating jacking legs. The casters and shock mounts for use in truck shipment retract into the stand for easy stowage during aircraft shipment, reducing the need to ‘man-handle’ heavy piers and castors.
“We have been engineering and manufacturing containers and stands for aviation engines that meet OEMs’ specific and rigorous requirements for more than 60 years,” said Don Clouser, vice president/general manager, Champion GSE. “Understanding our customers’ safety and usability challenges, we put a strong emphasis on designing a superior stand that is easier to use and incorporates hydraulic automation to enhance safety, all while maintaining the durability our customers expect from a Champion GSE product.”
The stand has 15 percent improved cradle rigidity as well as smaller, improved hydraulics and is fitted with 35 percent lighter caster arms. It is also coated with chemical- and corrosion-resistant paints and coatings.
After completing verifications at GE Aviation and demonstrating functionality into the Champion GSE Boeing 747 Cargo Simulator, the new GEnx-1B/2B rollover stand is available to Boeing 787, 747-8, and 747-8F GEnx owners and operators.
“We have developed the ultimate engine rescue platform for the GEnx fleet that reduces logistics headaches, enhances safety and shortens AOG during engine change situations. The advances made to this platform are suited well for any owner/operator when timing is critical and reliability is essential. We are pleased to include engine lease operations and VIP support elements into the features of the product,” said Dimitri Gianakopoulos, CEO, Champion GSE.
